Mariposa Ducks

For the past three months I’ve been a witness to a great duck migration. The small pond just yards from my patio has provided a resting place for flocks of ducks ( and a few birds). Being from the northeast I knew a Mallard, Snow Geese and Canada Geese. I had a lot of fun identifying Ring-necked, American Wigeon, Gadwall, Redhead, and Canvasback ducks. And there was 1 Coot who thought he was a duck. He came with a flock of ducks, stayed for weeks and then left with a flock of ducks. The one and only Coot.

“Reeds And Grasses Of Texas” is my new series of images from Texas. Each image is unique. Some are shot as double or triple exposures in the camera while others are multiple single images overlayed in the computer. They are printed on hand made Amate paper (not shown here). Amate has been made for centuries from the inner bark of trees by the Otomi people of Mexico. Each piece of art is a distinct blend of natural elements and is my personal expression of regional landscape.

SPIRITS OF TEXAS 2011, VOL 2

My subject for the month of June at Gallery Off the Square is Spirits From Vermont and Texas. Next month I will begin a new series “Reeds and Grasses of Texas”. each framed image will be one of a kind. Many of the images are printed on hand made Mexican paper called Amati. The results are very textural and unique.

Texas Wildlife 2011. Vol 2

The backyard pond continues to be a place of interest because of the wildlife it attracts. There is no natural shelter around the pond so the birds and water fowl use it as a resting place and not a home. The Blue Heron looked injured but he ate well for 2 days before he left. Those beautiful Black-Bellied Whistling Ducks were here for about 20 min. before they left. I had never seen such a duck before and it took about 24 hours before I would learn their identity.

The above 3 images, along with others, will be on exhibit at The Gallery Off The Square inside the Framers Gallery in Georgetown, TX for the month of May. I am part of an artist co-op which began exhibiting this month. Along with the wall art I also have greeting cards displayed and for sale. I am using a theme approach to the monthly exhibits. This month it is “Trees” and next month it will be “Wild Flowers”. If you are in the area please stop into the gallery and take a look.

This month I also have a piece in a juried show, Double Vision, at Studio2Gallery on S. Lamar in Austin. This show begins Sat. April 9th and runs through May 7th.
